How long have you worked at Heartland? Since 2013
What are your responsibilities? Outside sales covering the state of Iowa.
How did you land in the foodservice industry and what do you like best about it? I started as a rep in 2000 with Central Marketing Associates covering Iowa. In 2006, I left the industry and went to work for DJO Global selling orthopedic bracing covering Iowa and Nebraska. In 2012, I decided that I wanted to return to this industry, I had a friend that put me in touch with Rocky Brock and everyone at Heartland Reps.
One of the best features this industry has is that no two days are ever the same. Every day comes with a new challenge.
Where do you think the industry is headed? Automation! Due to the pandemic automation has taken off. I see this segment growing even further to help fulfill worker shortages in all aspects of our industry.
What’s your favorite food and beverage? I enjoy grilling steak, pork, and chicken on the grill. I won’t turn down wings, pizza, or Italian, especially if they are served with a cold beer!
If Chef David could cook you one dish, what would it be? Chef David can cook any dish he wants as long as he is not wearing any Nebraska red. Did you know that Iowa has beaten Nebraska in football for the last 7 years? Sorry, David, Chelsea, and Dennis I had to get it in somewhere - GO HAWKS!
Where's the coldest place on Earth you've ever been? It gets cold here in Central Iowa, up to -40 below (windchill or not is cold!)
Do you cook at home? If so, what’s your favorite tool or appliance? We try to grill whenever we can. Our weekly go-to items are hamburgers, hotdogs, steaks, and a variety of chicken.
Anything else we should know about you? My wife and I have 3 boys, twins that are 13, and an 11-year-old. When I am not working, my family and I enjoy going to Northern Minnesota for any getaways we can get in during the Summer.
